Conventional obturator prostheses often fall short in effectively restoring large palate-maxillary defects, leaving patients with compromised oral function and esthetics. In such cases, zygomatic implants emerge as a promising solution by providing remote anchorage, enabling the rehabilitation of challenging situations, including those with inadequate local bone sites. This lecture explores the efficacy of zygomatic implants, either alone or in combination with conventional length implants, shedding light on their success rates and potential complications. Moreover, it delves into the expanded applications of zygomatic implants, ranging from trauma to cleft palate patients, offering valuable insights into reduced treatment times and enhanced outcomes.
Decades of frustration in mandibulectomy rehabilitation have spurred the development of innovative techniques, such as microvascular tissue transfer and virtual surgical planning. Despite the challenges and varying success rates associated with these advancements, they underscore the pivotal role of prosthodontic principles in achieving functional and aesthetic restoration. This lecture presents a comprehensive overview of the evolution of mandibular reconstruction methods, emphasizing the significance of precise planning and interdisciplinary collaboration in optimizing outcomes for patients with tongue and mandible defects.
Facial prosthetics serve as a cornerstone in restoring the quality of life for individuals with facial defects. Addressing aesthetic concerns through meticulous design and surgical tailoring is imperative for achieving prosthetic success. This lecture meticulously examines the intricacies of facial prosthetics, from capturing fine anatomical detail to fostering seamless coordination with surgical teams for optimal outcomes. By emphasizing the paramount importance of communication and collaboration, it endeavors to equip participants with the requisite knowledge and skills to enhance patient satisfaction and well-being through the utilization of custom silicone prostheses and implant-retained solutions.
